I had a design idea once for an army truck that put the dashboard panel (with all the gauges) out about 3/4ths of an inch, on spacers. That provided a slot that would allow the A-C to flow out around the panel. By sealing off the top and sides with some nice metal work, the air would flow out the bottom of the panel. I never pursued it further than the weed-fueled drawing board.
