I twin sticked my dana 20 in my jeep years ago and have not had any issues with it popping out.
In fact, it is better than every, the single shifter always left me wondering if i had it in the right gear, and one time broke my tcase when it wasn't.
have you looked at the detent balls and rails are they warn?
