I had a scout a few years ago that was almost rust free, original oxidized white paint and only 2 rust spots behind the doors.... i think they came from the factory with those rust spots in place. : ) I was going to restore it but life was moving too fast for that and i sold it to a guy i know who is an IH nut and needed a scout to complete his collection.

I had not thought about the resistance in the extension cord i was using, that may have been a factor.

i have a 110 v century mig which does grate right to its limits, which are pretty good for a small welder, in fact the duty cycle on it is awesome. i would like to get a larger welder to be able to weld thicker materials, but this works good for body work and light fab.
