Does the engine rev up and seem like it's making power? Or, is it just barely managing to run and putting the plug back in kills it.

And, just to verify, you say that the same thing happens with any plug as long as you leave the other five in?

I was pretty sure it was an electrical problem, but now I wonder. Could you have the valve timing off so it's not really making power. You had the timing chain off, I assume. Or, maybe the valves are so badly adjusted you aren't making much more power than necessary to just run.

Or, maybe it's a fuel issue that's causing it to not make power. Heck, I don't know. If I couldn't figure it out, I would go back to basics and do a compression check, check dwell and timing, check valve lash and valve timing and then on to checking fuel pressure and flow.

Have you had a vacuum meter on while you have the problem? A vacuum meter will show restrictions in the exhaust and intake. You didn't drop something in the intake manifold, did you?

It's sort of like Nick's tire wobble question. Everybody gave their ideas and it was up to Nick to pick the right one. Eventually, it was a fix that had been suggested a couple times.

Have you done the spark thing at night? Amazing how stuff shows up. I wouldn't put this issue past being old plug wires. Did you put in new wires and plugs? Electrical energy can leak off in strange ways.

Gee, back to the old spark, compression, fuel thing. Funny how that works.
