Suspension- Leaf springs are still used on solid front axles today.

Steering- Manual gear boxes are easily used at high speeds- show me a 300 mph drag car w/ PS.

Brakes- cars sued drum breaks to go VERY Fast. The were the standard from Detroit until about 1970.

Nothing inherent;y wrong with those features.

I think you fools have noise problems, not drive train or engine probs. Even Dodge said 50 or 55 mph right on the dash. Yes, anybody who thinks their Dodge is inherently unsafe above 35 is a fool. I've heard guys here say 25.

If you didn't get that, email me and I'll tell you what I REALLY think. :^)

SHIM YOUR CABS UP 1/4" to isolate them from the frame. Ever had a cab off, and seen the groove worn in the frame where the lip around the tranny opening has been vibrating against the frame? Plus add some wavy washers on the transfer case linkages. Clock your U-joints.

I drive my '53 on the freeway at 55, and can carry on a conversation. I'm running a two barrel for a bit more power at those speeds, and 1100 x 16 Michelins for the 10% overdrive. Vac boosted brakes for lazy, and a Saginaw for parking lots, but not for safety, for drivability.
