How much government-mandated stuff would have to be added to an original FFPW to make it legal these days? It would obviously need a padded dash, air bags, and a modern computerized engine that meets smog. Would it need door-mounted air bags? Seat head rests? Disk brakes? Suspension and steering suitable for 75 mph? Soon all vehicles will have to have back-up cameras and a "black box" crash data recorder. I believe chrome within the driver's field of view (e.g. wiper arms and windshield trim) was banned back in the '70s due to alleged glare, along with protruding door handles that might snag a pedestrian. Part of the reason all modern vehicles look the same is that anything that isn't mandatory is forbidden.
