Mechanical is so much different. I strongly urge everyone to at least work with a mechanic & learn your truck. Mechanical is so much different than paint work because it's either done properly or it won't work for long. Any idiot can fix a PW if he's got a bit of a brain in his head, is willing & able to listen & take direction & most importantly, knows when to stop & ask questions rather break something. I mean a Power Wagon really is about the simplest vehicle on the planet to work on. The engine...you could do almost a full rebuild without even pulling it out if one was so inclined. A high school student could rebuild one of these simple transmissions within a couple of days if he knows where to get the parts. Wiring...I mean I wired my first one from scratch with some cloth wire I bought online & it took less than a day. I left mine stock but if a guy wanted to add a fuse panel...I mean it doesn't take a mechanic with much savy to build a harness about 700% better than a "Painless Wiring" kit. I mean they call it painless but it's painful to look at! :)
Paint work...sheesh...different animal. Takes years to get fast at doing perfect work. Anyone can do it perfectly if you have tons of patience, tons of time & you're going to spray things several times likely on your first go around. The mess, the cost of supplies...the health risks...sheesh if you're spraying without a fresh air respirator with the new coatings etc...you gonna be in for some ugly surprises when you get older.
It's only worth learning if you intend to do lots of it in your lifetime...me thinks.
