I would think the magnet would not care about a thin layer of paint. Unless of course you have some special leftover from painting stealth aircraft, even then you would probably be okay with magnets. Several thick coats might mess up the clearance on the sensor. Last resort, make sure the shaft the pulley runs on leaks, then drive on dusty roads.
