The area of the country you are in affects the cost of paint and body work a lot. Are you in California? Good custom painters can charge what they want here, it seems.
The problem is, it costs just as much to put a nice paint job on one of these trucks as it does a 426 hemi. But, the finished product justifies the cost for one, not the other.
I'd try some painter who isn't so "well known" :) An average painter will have no problem painting your truck. Are you trying to put a show quality paint on your truck?
I'd just as soon spend the money on a nice original truck and not have to worry about paint. The cost of paint is one of the major reasons people realize they are over their head cost-wise when it comes to restoring their trucks. That's why I say, buy a truck with the paint job you want. You will be way ahead in time, money and effort.
