I like johnd's idea of just hooking everything back up and seeing if it fires. You already have the head back on, so not much to lose as far as wasted work if it doesn't start.

These are low compression engines that will run if given half a chance. You said you are just trying to get it to run so you can drive it some.

I have an 8N Ford tractor that had such low compression that it was kind of hard to start. But, after it started it ran fine. I took it apart to do a rebuild, but I bought a diesel tractor and lost interest in the Ford so I still haven't gotten the Ford back together. I should have left it alone.

Oh well, a leak down tester is a good tool to have and know how to use. You just won't need to use it often. Remember I said, "beg, borrow or rent".
