In Nebraska they tax you on the purchase price. Then they tax you for how many wheels it has. (I KID YOU NOT!) I guess that's only in Lincoln, but the "wheel tax" used to be $4.00/tire, but I think it's up to $12.00/tire now. Then they charge you for the registration... then they charge you for the title fee. If you purchased it from another state, to transfer it to a Nebraska title they charge you ANOTHER $10.00 for the local Sherriff to run the VIN through the NCIC to make sure it wasn't reported stolen sometime in its life. And GOD FORBID you buy a car without a title! Some states give you some options (bill of sale, etc.) and NE has options, but they'll cost you an arm and a leg, your first born male child and, if you keep trying to buck the system - it may cost you your sanity. (Knowing most Dodge fans are a little lack in that area to begin with...) And when you show up at the Court House make sure you have your Title signed over to you, a bill of sale, proof of insurance, some recent letters mailed to you at your current address, two forms of ID (one has to have your Grandmother's maiden name on it) (okay, that might have been an exaggeration...) So whatever your state wants - just be glad you don't live around here!
