Sometimes common sense is the best safety. My sons and I have built approx. 100 houses in our area, some of which were extremely challenging, to say the least. Somehow we managed to never cut off a finger, never shoot ourselves in the eye, never fall off a roof, or fall victim to any of the other horrible effects of working with the tools needed to build a house. Granted, I should have used hearing protection, but my hearing has always been marginal, even as a child. I realize my views are not consistent with the industry's current thinking, and probably not with many who will read this. I expect to receive some chastisement, just as I do when I express my disdain for seat belt laws.
