Many cars had a double action fuel pump to provide vacuum to the wipers.
In 1956 that was original equipment on my 1950 Plymouth. In 1984, that was original equipment on my son's 1950 Plymouth. In 1990, that was original equipment on my 1950 Plymouth.
There are rebuild kits and there are new and rebuilt double action fuel pumps available. Remember, there is great interchangeability with MOPAR. There may be plumbing issues.
