I posted a week ago about starting my engine for the first time and having problems. It would start and idle fine, but would not rev up. I suspected the vacuum operated accelerator pump was the problem. I removed the square top carb and installed a Carter DTG1 carb w/ a linkage operated accelerator pump onto my engine. It now runs and revs up beautifully. So I now know it's the square top carb that's the problem. I rebuilt it with a kit from VPW, and used information I could find here in the archives and the "Best of the Forum" article "Square Top Carb Secrets". However, I couldn't salvage my old accelerator pump piston; I had to use the one in the VPW kit. The pump piston moves up and down freely. Any ideas on what I should check at this point?
