Here we go:-)

The front brakes on the 68 D100 Utiline were giving me fits...stomp on the brakes, front LEFT would lock at low speed on gravel. On the highway, it would pull left, the pull right. On inspection, hydraulics good, no leaks, drums are smooth and shoes show minimal wear. The left side is CLEAN, no dust, and right side has normal dust accumulation. Self adjustors are working well with no ridge on the drums. I recall putting on new drums and wheel studs years ago and inspecting the shoes for thickness.

One last fact...the brake shoes were the old rivited type, and when I got the truck from AAA a decade ago, there was a receipt for front brake hoses and wheel cylinders in the glove box.

Put on a set of remanufactured shoes as a Rock Auto close out ($6 and change for the shoes) in a Wagner box with the old Cooper Industries logo and some closeout national oil seal (8 for $20) and now the truck is stopping straight and fine.

All I can figure out is that left front brake shoes got contaminated with brake fluid/bearing grease at some point in time, left brake was grabbing and releasing while right front was acting normally.

While the truck was only used as a work truck, up on the mountain, it wasn't an issue, but now it is back in DAILY use by my SIL. She has her left leg in a cast after repair surgury to her achillies tendon, and it is the ONLY automatic available. She has to drive 30 north a couple days a week to fill in a dental office and this is the only way for her to get around for the next six weeks.

She is enjoying the LA318 with the holley carb, stage 1 intake, headman headers and purple horny glasspacks. And the Mudstar M/T tires on the back...

I will inspect the brakes later this week when a new right front self adjustor comes in, the cable was frayed and the star wheel had very short teeth:-)
