I installed a low-cost surveillance system at my house that can be monitored on the internet.
I put the camera in the front window with a sign saying that a photo had been taken and sent to my cell phone (not true, but some systems can do that) and that if I didn't recognize them I was in route and would call my neighbor and the sheriff.
When I got home one day, I reviewed the saved video and saw an idiot looking couple (man and woman) ride up together on one dirt bike. They knocked on the front door, then I could see them reading the sign and looking at the video camera. They got on their motorcycle and road off.
I don't know if the camera saved my property from theft, but I'm glad I had the system. It's nice to be able to look in on my property when I'm gone.
