It shouldn't, most of the aftermarket ones are actual globe type valves used to restrict flow, no releief.

Many of the factory valves also have a safety switch such that if pressure between the two circuits changes (e.g. a line blows out), then it will push the plunger and turn on the dash brake light, but it doesn't affect the operation of either circuit.

The whole point of the valve is to prevent the rear wheels from locking up first, which will want to spin the vehicle around. Some trucks have variable ones that adjust rear brake bias based on the loading of the truck. Later trucks just use the ABS to prevent rear wheel lockup.
