What you didn't say is if it's truly road-worthy for that kind of a trip. If it is, I'd personally rather drive it, take the scenic route, and enjoy the experience. But if it isn't currently a daily driver or fully restored, I'd sure hesitate to head out on the road with all the usual old-truck problems -- sketchy brakes, carburetor issues, the beginnings of a rod knock, leaky oil seals, etc. Could get real expensive and non-fun quickly if you have to fix it on the road. How much service do you plan to do on it before heading out?

Also, 10 mpg sounds optimistic to me, but then so does less than $1/mile for shipping.
