Can you imagine the society we live in now dealing with the sacrifices they made for the WWII effort? It would probably cause a civil war as some would not be able to "do without" and would resort to stealing.
I hear the stories from my Dad when he was in gradeschool on what they did to help. they closed the school once a week and had the kids walk the country side with burlap bags. they gathered milk weed pods to make parachutes. Can you imagine the Moms now having Junior outside walking in the sun for hours dragging a bag? Funny thing was dad said they WANTED to do it. Times have changed as you say.
