First let me state that automotive electrical is not my strength....far from it.

Round I - Starter spinning only. Bendix not engaging. Pulled starter, replaced bendix (probably not necessary), cleaned everything up and bench tested. Looking good. Charged battery overnight and tried starting again. This time the starter relay on the dash sounded like marbles rattling in a can, but the starter is not turning.

Round II - Replaced 4 post relay with new one. Reconnected the same way it came off (marked the wires). Again, charged the battery overnight, but it only got to 12.0 volts. Tried starting again....nothing, not even lights. Started to smell sulfur, battery smoking. Needless to say, I killed the switch at that point.

Round III - Bought a new battery, the old one was quite a few years old, plus the smoking. Now I've got lights, but nothing happens when I turn the key.

Not sure what to try next. I know I'm doing this wrong, throwing parts at it. I've got a good multi-meter. What should I be checking?

Thank you,
KenW
