Yes , according to an article by Bryce J. Sunderlin , in a publication called "Dodge Military Vehicles " collection No.1 , ISBN 0 946489270 , [ Brooklands Books ] , there was a total production-run of two prototypes built for the Service evaluation . Originally ordered on May 19th 1942 , [ to be built by Dodge {Fargo] , at the Mound-Road Plant ] , the two extensively modified WC53 Specials [U.S.A. 2092777 , and 2092778 ] were delivered to the Holibird Ordnance Depot , {Baltimore , Maryland ] for testing . In January 1943, the first vehicle was turned over to the Field Artillery Board , at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds , for Service-Board tests. The second truck was shipped off to Ft. Knox , Kentucky , where the Armed Forces Board , started their own trials , in early 1943 . Both Boards conducted their programs independently of each other .
In June '43 , the Armored Board's test vehicle was shipped back to Aberdeen , where both vehicles were subsequently assigned to that facility's motor-pool, for utility use . At this point , the two Specials , dropped from sight , except for the pictures in the books .
I wonder if either survived ?!
