Trucks have been made with taller gears (in 60's & 70's) for quite awhile when we didn't have overdrive. It's the gearing in the trans to get up to speed that matters along with torque. The hemi will produce 450 ft. lbs.. Miss-use or abuse of anything will tear it up IMHO :).
