My experience was with a 2000 Dodge Dakota and a conventional car trailer. My wife and I had just pulled my son's Honda Accord from Sandpoint to Montpelier, Id. On the way home, just north of Pocatello, the right rear tire on the now empty trailer blew. As I said, I didn't have the brake controller in the Dakota, (dumb), and the trailer veered off to the right with more force than the Dakota could control and we jack knifed, went airborne for a short way off the shoulder, then rolled 1 1/4 times. The traileer hitch literally pulled off the ball and the safety chains kept the trailer connected to the vehicle and upright.
