If there's vacuum in the gas tank, you need a new venting gas cap. Many times I've found these trucks where someone's installed a none venting cap & for obvious reasons, that won't work on a truck that doesn't have a vent in the gas tank.
There's probably a way to test an old gas cap. I have a radiator cap pressurizing tool...that would work if you have the right adapter.
Cheapest to just see when it happens again if you have a vacuum in your tank & if so...she's not venting.
