May years ago I agreed to build an addition for an old gentleman. I gave him a labor price and he was to supply all of the material.
When I showed up to start the framing, I saw a stack of 1x8 random length boards. I asked him what that was for. I nearly fell over backward when he told me it was the sheating for the floor, walls, and roof. And he wanted it applied diagonally!! Of course I obliged him and built the addition the way he wanted it, knowing my per hour earnings had just taken a hit.
He had actually sawed all of the joists, studs, plates, rafters, and sheathing material on his own mill. So it was rough-cut, random lengths, etc. I can laugh about it now. L) :)
