I live deep in the woods, and tics are constant problem...so I use 100% deet repellant (I like the Ben's brand, from my local outfitter or Bass Pro), above the ankle boots, long pants and shirt (or better yet, one piece coverall), spray the boots, and ankle and wrist cuffs and hat.

And this is MOST useful. Remove excess body hair where the ticks like to nest (think Brazilian for men), and then inspect carefully at the end of the day. The dogs and cats are on a topical monthly tick and flea treatment.

And last but not least, the excess deer population needs to be kept culled, venison loin, bbq and sausage is my favorite and we are thinking about a CVA muzzle loader so we can legally take does.

I grew up not far from Old Lyme, Connecticut and we personally knew the medical team at Yale who identified Old Lyme Fever, now Lyme Disease. If you miss the initial and secondary symptoms, tertiary effects can be terrible.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If the rain stops, I will be back up in the woods today with the M37 working on some of my pioneer roads with pick and shovel.
