Seems like killing ignition has a time lag between shutting down the ignition and the engine coming to a stop. Things happen quickly in an emergency. Not sure if it is faster but what about a purely mechanical air shutoff? I know in high level diesel competition they use a spring loaded knife gate valve that when released cuts air to the engine. I realize that in diesels this is because of runaway potential of compression ignition but would this stop the engine faster and eliminate the electrical aspect? The other option might be some sort of clutch in the pto driveshaft that could be kicked out very quickly.
