In the early origins of the overdrive project I looked into building a Saturn style overdrive for the 201/205 transfer case. It became clear that the project was way beyond my abilities and budget, because the 201/205 transfer case is a completly different design.

On the Jeeps, the TC input shaft is actually the transmission output shaft, which runs all the way through to the back of the TC and is used to help support the gearing inside the Saturn overdrive. On the 205, the TC input shaft is relatively short and is supported by the center rear bearing carrier, which is where the OD has to go. So the OD for the 205 has to be built up to support itself AND the TC input shaft. Technically it's do-able, but no one would buy it because it would be so expensive. Plus I'm not sure how long the bearings would last supporting that big 7" output gear on little tiny roller bearings on a 2" long support shaft. My guess is it would last 30,000-50,000 of highway use, and might blow up on the first high-torque tromping it received.

Hope this isn't a case of TMI - Greg
