I have a freind who wants to put a overdrive 5 speed into his 1946 WD-20, without replacing the original 230, and I was wondering if this could work.

My questions are:

1. What year did Dodge start using the O/D 5 speed?

2. What trucks used them?

3. What type of engine would the truck need to have to have an input shaft that will work in his 230 flat head?

4. Will the tranny bolt up to his bellhousing, or will there be modification needed?

5. What other makes of trucks use an O/D 5 speed that will work in a Dodge?

6. Will the input shaft need to be chaged if a off brand tranny is used(I hear that is the hard part to get)?

And if the 5 speed does not work, how about the other options:

7. He has the full floating corporate rear end, what is the lowest number gear ratio that Dodge made for that rear end?

8. How reasonable is it to try and put a 318 into this truck?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Eric
