These engines were generally OK in their performance. They tended to be slightly under powered for the scout when they were naturally aspirated. They did come with a turbo in the later years as an option. The turbo made all the diffrence in the world. It added many MPH to the trucks speed when climbing hills. Generally there was much better performance with the turbo.
