Today I found a 1976 international scout, made in canada, sold in alaska (according to the paper work) that had 66000 original miles on it, in a pasture. It had been abandoned by the alaskan owners when they were told the knocking engine needed rebuilding. 6mo. later, the son of the mechanic who diagnosed the problem, inquired of his father about the scout and the circumstances of its existence at his shop. After hearing that the owners had run out of fuel and upon refueling, cranked and drove 10 mi. with the engine knocking only to be told it was dying by his father, the son bleeds the injectors and the engine runs like new,no kock at all! Inspecting the papers in the console, he found the scout had been serviced on a regular basis since it was new and had low miles. He tried to contact the owners in alaska, but they had moved. So he used and played with the scout in the woods for about a year until he decided to use the axles on his jeep, leaving the rest of the scout sitting in the pasture behind the shop all but forgotten
7yrs later I come along, and as usual am poking my nose around his shop and in the pasture when I happen to look under the hood of the scout and find a chrysler-nissan 6cyl. diesel engine coupled to a 727 auto tranny. Did I find a good thing ? reading from the engine tag, The mod. is CN6-33, ND model SD33lE, ser.# is 022291, rated output 99hp at 3800 rpms. It looks like it would fit in my WM300, so tell me,if anyone knows, is it worth my time or not.
