There's just enough difference that it wont play, you can actually run the tape on fast forward and get an image but it's terrible.

I regularly get tapes from the US (in NTSC) and get them copied onto PAL format here for the equivalent of a few dollars. In the UK now you can buy twin-format machines that will record only in PAL but will play tapes in either format.

The video cassette and tape is physically identical, it's just the recording parameters that are different.

Obligatory Dodge content - worked on the VC 3 today cleaning it up a bit.
