I was up at Dollar Tire in Edmonton AB last Friday. I bought 5 9.00 X 16 XLs. I looked at the 11.00s but they did not have a great selection in their retail area and I have a height limitation getting into my garage. Apparently he has 2 storage places and the retail outlet. Apparently someone bought a large number of 11.00 X 16s earlier in the week and they had not restocked the retail area.

I came away with mixed thoughts on Dollar Tire. Most of the tires were 50% tread left. However, I did see 1 brand new 11.00 that was great and a new 9.00 with sidwall damage. About half the tires looked as if they had been used on the road only. I saw very little trash. A lot of the 11.00s would have been good cores for recapping. He stated that they had a lot more stock. The tires with apparent road uses only seemed to be worn in the tread center with the outer lugs showing little wear. Looks like they were run at too high of pressure. The tires that I got were totally unmarked on the side walls and had no cuts in the tread areas. Easy life tires with some miles. Many of the 9.00s had been regroved. He stated that the military had done it but they had never touched the road since they were regroved. I believe that they were regroving the tires as the rubber was very fresh and not dirty at all. We had a long discussion on this and he stated that the military was doing this. He comments did not sit right.

He is also trying to get maximum price for the tires and tends to over state the remaining tred. He also commented that people come up from the States and take the tires to mud bogging events and get up to $400 per tire. He tried to convince me to buy a large lot and take them and make a bundle of money in the States as they are not available there. I personnaly would want to be present to inspect the tires at purchase.

I ended up spending about $115 a tire. The price isn't too bad especially if I consider how long they will last on my truck.

I got the tires across the boarder with out any problems. I may consider a trip later this summer bringing back several sets. The only reason why I would do this is that I like to go to the Lake Louise and Jasper Natl. Park areas. If I am that far it is only an extra 400 miles.
