315 Poly Tuning Specs

Okay, so I'm finally back on the road with the war department showing off how well my truck works. We're (me and the war department) headed to Poulsbo (about 10 miles) to get a load of composted emu poop. No problem, I say. The truck will make it easily. To make a long story shorter, we did make it - but barely. Seems that after the engine was warm, it started to not want to go. I'm pretty sure it's a fuel problem. Maybe a clogged filter, maybe vapor lock. But it made me wonder what the normal tuning specs for a 315 are. Things like timing, dwell angle, spark plug gap. As you can probably tell, I'm a neophyte when it comes to American V-8's. So I'm starting from scratch. What is vapor lock and how do you stop it?
