Many states used motor numbers instead of VIN's up into the middle or late 1950's. Depending on the locat1on of the vehicle when the change to VIN's took place, you may have a dead end. Also, many vehicles were repowered with engines from other vehicles and, if this is the case, you might get a very interesting history from an engine number search.

The 218 and 230 were such swaps. We used a 218 from a '50 Plymouth in a '41 Dodge 1/2 ton pick up and corrected the truck title. The Plymouth is in storage and its title will have to be corrected the next time it is registered or sold.
