I just talked to Mr. Charles Tslbert. He's a long time dieselhead with enough time on his hands to help all of us out. He is a solid individual who was putting Hercules' into M37s till they went T-U.
He prototype a 130hp/330 ft-lb 4BTA into a M37 recently. He apparently is planning 2 more for the local fire dept. He may then be ready to offer motor mounts on a retail basis.
Right now he's doing SAE#3 flywheels/housings (easy to get from Cummins) and the previously discussed here Spicer 3053A 5spd.
I predict: when the ISB 16 valve 170 hp/420 ft-lb 4BTAi comes available, it'll have enough torque to pull 11.00R16s with 4.89s AND a separate 0.78 overdrive - about 1700 rpm at 60 mph in 5th-OD!!! That would yield great mileage and a nice quiet truck, running at 2000 rpm at 70 mph.
Keep your ears posted and let Mr. Talbert know if you're interested. I would be if I didn't already have a diesel M37.
He would consider doing Power Wagon (civilian variety) - Cummins kits if there's interest out there.
Charlie
