My idea is to remove the rear output of the transfer case, and install the OD unit in its place. I figure it will push the rear output yoke back about 8-10" max, which should work on the M37. The best thing about this type of OD unit is that you don't need to pull the engine, transmission or TC to install it.

I considered putting the OD ahead of the TC, but it resulted in an extremely short jackshaft which would have had a fairly steep angle (bad vibrations). It would also have overdriven the TC (more noise, more heat, more wear).

Granted, you won't be able to use overdrive when in 4 wheel drive, but frankly I've never found a need to go more than 25 or 30 mph in 4 wheel drive. One advantage to overdriving the TC output is that you can keep the TC rpms down, which should keep things cooler and quieter.

A pre-TC overdrive could certainly be put together, but I think it would be better used on the NP201/205 transfer cases, because they are an "inactive" transfer case (power through direct). I would certainly consider it if there is enough demand.

There will need to be an interlock system to keep someone from engaging 4wd while still in overdrive, but I think I have that worked out.

All in all it is an extremely simple unit, and will be manufactured to very high quality standards. My goal is to build something that I will be proud to say belongs on a Power Wagon.

Feel free to post any more questions. Thanks for your interest.
Greg
