Here's the theory: If you build whats basically 6 volt ign system and use a resistor to run it on 12v, then you can bypass the resistor when cranking.During cranking the heavy load on the battery will drop the system voltage to about 10v.This give a good hot spark to start a cold engine, yet when running your points will last a longer time. How is your points life? This brings up condensers, which have to match the electrical characteristics of the ignition system, i.e. the coil/voltage of the system (not points, they've gotta fit distributor). Asumming that whoever converted to 12v used coil and condenser that need a ballast resistor, hook it in feed line to ign switch, then hook up bypass line from coil + (where ign/ballast wire goes)to the extra termional on your starter relay (should be hot when cranking, I thinks it's labeled I,other is S). If you didn't use a relay you can hook bypass wire to starter switch on starter, there's usually a little screw or use the big lug that goes to starter motor but you'll need a diode in this line so your ingnition system doesn't get grounded thru the starter windings. Email me if I'm not clear enough, I'll try to scan a wiring diagram.
