Allen, unless the pinion is actually damaged, they all make noise, in Dodges. I've got a '91 350,maxi that started to howl this spring. I took it to a mechanic that only works on rear axles, and he said leave it alone...all the Dodge rears howl at various levels depending on rpm, load etc. He recommended no action until it got worse.
To your second question, I saw a 3500, diesel, cab/chasis, with a cube/box on the back for the first time the other day. Hope it works out. I've had Dodge vans since '77, and could not kill them...got a '91 and a '00, right now...both are great haulers and love to drive them. Tom H.
