Don't be too hard on yourself. I chose to have my truck painted by a friend who I consider to me one of the most meticulous individuals on the planet. I have seen his work on vehicles he painted, in the past, when he lived in Calif. and had a very elaborate paint booth. The paint jobs were as perfect as any you would want to see.
I had to convince him to do my paint job, despite the fact he has no such booth in his present shop. Doesn't even have heat. He did a base/clear and for my truck it is perfectly fine. A little orange peel, some dust, and other imperfections. And I could pay him to sand/buff it out and make it better, but I am completely satisfied with the job. I use the truck to work on my property and would not want to do that if I had a "flawless" paint job.
Do the best you can and you have my admiration for being willing to tackle the body and paint work....I didn't want to learn a new trade myself.
