Nope, it was real. He broke the rear U-Joint (and tore an ear off the driveshaft yoke)during the truck pull the night before. It was a perfect arrangement. I think the whole thing was staged just so they could put a flattie tow truck to use!!!
In reality, the sled was too heavy for a vintage truck pull....and it looked like they were pulling uphill at the start.. though that didn't stop most of them, Doug's Fun Ton put on a real show once again....he even beat the real pulling tractor.
I do have a good pic at the square of the truck going by and you can see the yoke at the transfer case hanging down.
