... relocation some day..

Its always been my dream to retire in the mountains with a cooler climate...looking for recomendations of towns to visit while there..

Here is what I would love:

- a quaint small town atmosphere, not run down, yet with simple basics like a good restarunt or two, a coffee shop or news stand, a few shops, hardware stoe maybe for nessecities, a small grocery, etc

- Love the mountains, but not sure we want the loads of snow you get in the true mountain towns like Vail and such..

- Would like it not more than 20 miles or so from one of the bigger towns for supermarket food and other shopping. (Lowes, home depot, Walmart, etc)

- We want a country home in this "quaint" town I envision..Possibly on a river... has to have large mature treess, so no high plains desert type places,

Looking to hear from you CO guys who live there. What town are you in?

Our itinerary is taking us thru Denver to Colorado Springs, then rt 24 west into Buena Vista, then onto Frisco, Vail, Grand lake and into Estes Park then thru Fort Collins south back to airport.

Staying at Each place one night. Our goal for this vacation is a dual purpose: Visit plus look at possible places to live someday.

I have visited Estes Park several times and fell in love with the town.. My ideal town would be much like Estes park, but maybe not snowed in so much! I like the variety of shops and all there.

Doesnt that town basically close up each winter?

Any recomendations of small towns I should veer off my intended course to go see that matches this description?

thanks Guys!
