Gil, what you have done is not a valid test, there is no pressure on that side of the valve. as light as our valve springs are you could very well be blowing them open when you apply the air, even in an open port. (if the springs are installed). try this, take each valve and mark the seat with some kind of marker(I use a sharpie or magic marker)then spin the valve by hand against the seat in the block(no springs) remove and look, any zits in the seats will be marked. if for instance 7/8's of a seat in the head has black stuff on it then the part that is not marked is a low spot and needs more lapping, and conversly for hi spots. when all the marks are even, valves and block both, it is ready to test.
