A few years ago our county started requiring residents to obtain a sticker that was free if you owned property, and cost a few bucks if you didn't. My inquisitive and sometimes obstinate nature caused me to question this new procedure, as if I were going to drive from another state to dump my trash here. :) Of course I could get no real sensible answer.
They wanted the sticker in the corner of the door window. I wasn't eager to "proudly" display my Bonner County Solid Waste Dept. sticker on the window of my truck, so I just took it along when I drove the PW to the dumpster site.
One time I pulled in with a huge load, and realized I had left the sticker at home.
Now the attendant, who had on several occasions admired my PW, and who also wore a self assigned mental badge attesting to his authority, asked me to see my sticker (which he haD seen 50 times before). I said I forgot it. He looked at the load in the back, and sort of puffed up his chest and said: "Well out of respect for your truck, I'll let you go...this time."
I thought "cool, if I ever get this truck going fast enough to break a speed limit, I want the cop that stops me to be his brother."
