2 ways: remove cam and knock them out from the bottom. Or, Remove valve, take big chisel and break off the upper part through the intake and exhaust ports. (the upper part is usually mushroomed a bit so doesnt want to get knocked out downward). Then knock it down alittle bit, take big chisel, break off a piece, knockd it down some more, break off another piece be careful not to knock it down into your lifter. ONly problem doing it with the lifters in place is getting all the metal fragments out. breaking them results in metal chunks, flakes, and dust. I owuld pull engine, and go through it. if the guides are shot then everything else probalby is also. guides dont go bad at low miles so if they are sloppy and/or cracked and mushroomed at the top then tons of miles on that engine.
