Yeah, it just depends where you are going. You have the experience and know already what's needed, so no need to buy anything extra.
Someone who has just gotten a truck that's not been maintained and is about to take the head off probably doesn't know that they will may eventually end up using most of the gasket kit. Every old FFPW will need the cooling system gone through eventually if it hasn't been done already.
You can get a complete gasket kit for $60.00 (plus shipping,less the discount)from Rock Auto if you plan ahead. Otherwise, you can pay about $30.00 for just a head gasket from a local parts store. For me, it was a matter of convenience in having the gasket kit. And, I have used every gasket but the head gasket.
