There's not very many things that will cause what you describe & there's none that would take more than a few hours to fix.
My advice is to hire someone reputable to help you fix it & work with them. The perfect guy lives in Santa Rosa & that's who I'd be going to visit. That's where you started & that was a good decision.
It's always fun to do all your own work but you need to know when you're over your head & that's the time to bring in help....it sounds like you're there.
There's lots of guys capable of fixing it...just bring it in & that way you can enjoy your Summer bombing around having fun rather than broke down & usually that leads guys who just want to get out of the hobby.
That's my $.02.
I realize there was some problem between you guys but that's the man to get you back on the road safely & with your truck running as it should.
