Start engine. Open hood. Put fire extinguisher on fender.

Take a hand-held propane torch, open the valve a little, do not light it, and move it slowly around the places where an intake leak might occur. Head gasket, intake manifold, base of carb., etc. When the engine revs increase, or the hissing stops, you've found the leak.

If something goes wrong, remember that I did not suggest any of this in real life. Just a theoretical solution.
