I'm no carb expert, but are you sure it's the accelerator pump and not the governor? Perhaps a broken spring in the governor? In my limited experience, a truck with new accelerator pump will have a flat spot just off idle, but as soon the piston overcomes the resistance, it runs fine.

Did you save your original spring and pump? The reason Carter changed to a 40oz spring is that the trucks with the 50oz springs would stall. Not sure that's the same as "won't throttle up".

The correct rebuild kit for your carb is #1503 with the 40oz spring. The spring is silver in color instead of brass. There is also a 30oz spring, which I believe is copper colored.

If you need a replacement accelerator piston, I have three of them and could send you one.

You can contact Dimitrios at Pascoreef Micro Restorations at 727-505-7901. He is an expert on these carbs and governors, and rebuilt three for me. He has access to original Carter kits and can likely hook you up with the correct spring.

Good luck.
