I live on a pond, When the beavers came a few years ago, they went around and systematically chewed down every sapling about 3" in diameter until they had their den built over in a cove, then they stopped. Now they just chew down a few tasty twigs and saplings to chew on the bark. My beach is always full of little sticks with the bark chewed off. Industrious little buggers, they know their wood. I had to put screen wire around the trees I wanted to keep. As much as I hate them, they do eat the lilly pad roots and they have pretty much erraticated them from our pond. Good luck, they breed like rabbits.
